Berrington leads Scots to first tri-series victory

-

An unbeaten 49 from Richie Berrington guided Scotland to a comfortable seven-wicket win over Holland in Amstelveen.

Berrington was well backed by Kyle Coetzer and George Munsey as the Saltires chased down 160 with more than two overs in hand to claim their first victory of the international Twenty20 tri-series.

Having lost their opening game and tied their previous encounter with Ireland, Scotland were again put on the back foot after the hosts chose to bat first as Tobias Visee and Max O’dowd got them off to a flier.

The pair had taken the score past 40 inside the fourth over before Mark Watt struck at the start of what proved to be a frugal spell of 1-18.

Scotland fought back with the ball after O’dowd fell, restricting the hosts to just 74 runs in the second half of the innings as Holland finished on 160 for six, with Wesley Barresi hitting a 51-ball 53 not out.

In reply, Scotland were always ahead of the rate after Coetzer and Munsey blitzed the powerplay.

They reached 74 in the sixth over before the skipper went for 42, but Munsey kept the rate up before falling for 46 with three figures on the board at halfway.

Berrington combined with Calum Macleod and then Dylan Budge to take the visitors over the line with 14 balls remaining to secure a comfortable win that sees them go level on points with Ireland.
