Dark Blues captaincy will continue to rotate

-

Dundee manager Neil Mccann has revealed he will continue rotating the captaincy during his side’s Betfred Cup campaign.

After handing the armband around his squad during the Dark Blues’ pre-season friendlies, Mccann made defender Genseric Kusunga skipper for Saturday’s 4-0 victory over Stirling Albion.

The Angola internationalist helped to steer the Dens Park men to an impressive openingday win and led by example with a superb assist for Sofien Moussa’s breakthrough strike at Forthbank.

However, Mccann admits the 30-year-old should not get too attached to the role as the Dens Park boss seeks a group of players all capable of skippering the team.

Defender Darren O’dea is the club captain but is currently sidelined with a hip injury, while full-back Cammy Kerr performed the role of vicecaptain last term.

Mccann explained: “In all the pre-season games as well, I’ve rotated the captaincy.

“I think it’s good that they all get a wee bit of a shot at it and feel that they can hold that responsibility.

“But the armband really isn’t that important to me.

“So, I’ll probably continue to do that throughout the League Cup.”

Dundee continue their Betfred Cup campaign when they host Group D rivals Dunfermline on Sunday.
