V&A fans furious at missing opening after website woes

-

People keen to be the first visitors to Dundee’s new V&A museum may have missed out on the chance after two days of website “technical issues”.

Free tickets for the £80.1 million waterfront attraction’s opening weekend on September 15 and 16 were made available for the first time on Wednesday morning and again on Thursday.

Eager fans who pre-registered were sent out email links on both days giving them an exclusive chance to be one of the first people in the door.

The website difficulties left many who missed out furious after the window to secure tickets closed at 2pm yesterday.

More than 3,000 free tickets for the museum’s opening weekend were successfully booked despite the issues. Several thousand people also signed up to the ballot for weekend tickets, which closed at midnight on Thursday.

A V&A Dundee spokesperson said: “We’re sorry to those who experienced issues and we appreciate people’s patience.

“There has been exceptionally high interest in visiting the museum during opening weekend and we want to apologise to those who have been waiting in the queue. From Monday September 17 no tickets will be required to enter V&A Dundee.

“An extended ballot for Friday evening at the 3D Festival opened yesterday, so we would also encourage people to register for this over the next two weeks.

“The family-friendly 3D Festival on the Saturday will be free and open to everyone on a drop-in basis, with no tickets required.”
