Forfar man admits smashing partner’s wardrobe and ipad

- JANET THOMSON

An Angus man who slept in and turned up just as his case was being heard at Forfar Sheriff Court was placed on a year’s community payback order.

Nathan Hayes, 21, of Pitreuchie Place, Forfar, arrived as his solicitor was explaining to Sheriff Jillian Martin-brown the accused’s mother had telephoned to explain she had gone to his house to make sure he was out of bed, but got no answer.

As his client entered the court he added: “It seems he has just woken up.”

Hayes had pleaded guilty at a previous appearance to destroying and damaging his partner’s wardrobe and a tablet computer at their home on May 22.

Depute fiscal Lisa Marshall told the court Hayes and his partner had been in a relationship since September 2014.

She said: “On May 22 the complainer was at work. Just after 9am she received a text message from the accused which said ‘guess what all your s**t is smashed. He sent a second text with a photo of an ipad which he had damaged.

“The value of the damage was £702. He damaged her belongings when he found out she had been speaking to another gentleman.

“The wardrobe was fixed but the ipad was permanently damaged.”

Sheriff Martin-brown placed Hayes on a 12 month supervision order to be reviewed on October 18.

Also at Forfar: Sentence was deferred on an Arbroath man who earlier pleaded guilty to assaulting a male at Millgate Loan, Arbroath, on July 1 2017.

Rory Starkey, 22, of Priory Court, Forfar, admitted punching the male on the head, knocking him to the ground and kicking him on his head.

An agent for Starkey told the court his client did not shy away from what was a “serious matter” and that he “had issues”.

Sheriff Martin-brown placed Starkey on a six week high tariff structured sentence and deferred sentence until September 6.
