Honda’s keeping it simple for CR-V

- JACK MCKEOWN MOTORING EDITOR jmckeown@thecourier.co.uk

The new Honda CR-V will cost from £25,995 when it goes on sale next month.

The Volkswagen Tiguan and Seat Ateca rival will go on sale in early September.

Keeping things simple for potential buyers, the new CR-V comes in the same four trim grades as the previous generation – S,SE, SR and EX.

The big news is there’s no diesel version, at least to begin with.

Instead there’s a 1.5-litre Honda VTEC engine, though three power outputs are offered – 127, 170 or 188bhp.

The lowest powered engine is available with manual transmission and two-wheel drive only. All other versions have the choice of two or four-wheel drive and manual or automatic transmission.

There’s also a hybrid model that combines a 2.0 litre petrol engine with a pair of electric motors and should be both powerful and economical.

Buyers can also choose a seven-seat variant. This costs £1,700 more than the equivalent five-seater, and is offered both as a manual and an auto in SE and SR trims. All models will be fitted as standard with parking sensors and a rear view camera as well as a suite of safety features, which includes collision mitigation braking system, forward collision warning, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control and traffic sign recognition.

SR and EX versions will also feature blind spot warning and cross traffic monitoring.

SR grade also adds smart entry and start, a leather interior, active cornering lights and front windscreen de-icer, while flagship EX models will have a heated steering wheel, head-up display, hands-free powered tailgate, heated rear seats and panoramic glass sunroof.

Top dollar for a CR-V is £36,455 for a four-wheel drive EX version with automatic transmission. Honda is also promising competitive finance deals on the new CR-V.
