Karis hailed as a ‘role model’ for modern apprentice programme
Instrumentation technician Karis Martin has been hailed as a role model for the modern apprentice programme after successfully completing her training in engineering systems at NHS Tayside.
Karis, 24, was awarded a certificate for completing the programme during a celebration event at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.
She started her modern apprenticeship in 2013 and attained her HNC in engineering systems.
She worked with the medical physics department in Ninewells Hospital and has now secured permanent employment in the department as an instrumentation technician.
Karis, from Arbroath, is continuing with her studies in the graduate apprentice programme, studying instrumentation, measurement and control.
NHS Tayside director for organisational development George Doherty, who presented her with her award, said: “Karis has worked incredibly hard throughout her apprenticeship and in applying her learning in the workplace.
“The commitment shown by Karis makes her a real role model for the modern apprentice programme and now as a member of staff.
“I hope her achievement will encourage more people to consider the opportunities apprenticeship programmes offer.”
Karis said she had enjoyed the programme and urged others to consider taking part.
She said: “I would definitely encourage other people to think about doing an apprenticeship.
“I think they are the way forward as it gave me the opportunity I was looking for.”
