Saints’ loan signing makes good early impression

New loan signing Tristan Nydam has made a good first impression with St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright.

But there is no rush to throw the Ipswich Town midfielder into the team for today’s trip to Hamilton.

“Tristan has looked good,” Wright said.

“He’s trained from Wednesday and is exactly what we thought he was going to be – good on the ball, good range of passing, energetic and likes to get about people when he’s not in possession.

“He hasn’t played a game for two weeks but he’ll be in the squad. The lads did well last week.”

Wright anticipates being without Murray Davidson for six weeks.

“He’s had his operation and text me after it to say he’d be back on Monday,” said Wright.

“You’re probably looking at six weeks. That’s if it goes well, which you always have to say after operations. It’s the second time they’ve gone into his ankle.”

Wright expects Callum Hendry to be a big success on loan with Brechin.

He said: “It’s a path that has worked well for Stevie May, Chris Kane and Jason Kerr.

“Ideally we’d have liked to get him to a Championship club but none of them really considered him, which I’m surprised about, and the winners in this will be Brechin.

“Kane’s back fit and he needs to play.

“It’s a good move for Callum and a great deal for Brechin. He’ll score goals.”
