Second driver clocked within week at more than 140mph

-

Police say a second driver has been caught travelling at more than twice the speed limit in just five days.

A silver Honda was clocked at up to 145mph on the A92 in Fife on Friday night.

Police stopped the vehicle at around 10.50pm between the Redhouse roundabout in Kirkcaldy and the Bankhead roundabout in Glenrothes.

A 24-year-old man has been reported to the procurator fiscal for dangerous driving, having allegedly travelled at more than two times the 70mph dual carriageway limit.

The latest incident comes just days after another motorist was reported following a similar incident on the stretch near Cowdenbeath on Sunday September 2.

On that occasion, police detected a red Volkswagen being driven at 141mph.

The driver has also been reported to the procurator fiscal.

Inspector Andy Mather, of Fife Road Policing Unit, said: “Driving at speeds that are grossly in excess of the maximum speed limit is simply dangerous.

“Drivers are not only putting their own lives at risk but increasing the risk to their passengers and other road users. This manner of driving will not be tolerated.”

The news comes after drivers were detected at speeds of 95mph and 109mph during a one hour period from 8.30am to 9.30am on September 2.

East Safety Camera Unit manager Andy Jones said: “This is totally unacceptable and reckless conduct.

“There is absolutely no excuse for ignoring the speed limit with such blatant disregard for themselves and anyone else in the area.”
