Johnston still confident of title challenge

-

Allan Johnston admits that Dunfermline’s current lowly position in the Championship is “not acceptable”, but is convinced they can still challenge for the title this season.

The Pars have not won any of their last four league games since opening the campaign with a win over Dundee United at Tannadice.

That success came on the back of four consecutive Betfred Cup victories and appeared to signal an exciting season ahead.

But the Fifers were booed off the pitch last weekend after a goalless draw against Alloa that left them eighth in the table and seven points adrift of leaders Inverness Caley Thistle.

And they are now under pressure to kick-start a revival in tough surroundings when they travel to face Morton tomorrow.

Johnston said: “Sometimes when you start losing goals it affects the whole team, and we need to get back on track.

“We’ve had a couple of clean sheets in the last couple of games and now we need the other side of it, we need to start scoring goals.

“We need to start catching the teams up above us, because it’s not acceptable where we are just now.

“We want to be up challenging at the top of the league.

“There are a lot of games coming up where we feel we can put a run of results together and start working our way up the league and start challenging again.”
