On-form Bluebells hit Dalry for six

JUNIORS: Good day for Tayside teams in second round of Macron Scottish Cup

- PETER RUNDO

Seven Tayside teams are through to the third round of the Macron Scottish Cup with several notable performances.

Although Lochee United trailed to an early goal by visitors Dalry Thistle, the Bluebells ran out comfortable 6-2 winners.

Lewis Gardiner was on target for the Ayrshire side with five minutes gone but Connor Birse quickly cancelled that out.

Jamie Reid gave George Shields’ side the lead just before the break.

A three-goal burst inside five minutes in the second half killed off Thistle. Dougie Cameron converted a penalty before Birse and Reid were both on target again.

Kyle Cumming pulled a goal back but Grant Lawson then added the hosts’ sixth.

Meanwhile. Broughty Athletic had a terrific 4-0 victory away to Benburb.

Derryn Kesson and Paul Mclellan both hit doubles.

Even although Carnoustie had Baillie Steel sent off, the Gowfers still posted a 3-0 victory over visitors Longside, making it a winning start for new boss Phil Maguire.

Mark Smith put them ahead just before the break with Pat Martin and Smith again finding the net in the second period.

Downfield romped to a 7-1 victory at home to Larkhall Thistle.

Paul Blackwood and Ross Gallacher both bagged braces, with Jordan Garden, Dale Davidson and Marc Ogg the other scorers.

Violet stunned Maryhill at Glenesk by taking a four-goal interval lead before finishing 4-2 winners.

An Andy Pattullo double plus a Gavin Thomson strike and an own goal put the Pansies on course for round three.

The Glasgow side did score twice in the second half but the outcome was never in doubt.

East Craigie’s three-goal winning margin at Thorniewood United could easily have been far greater.

Aiden Benvie, Conan Howitt and Scott Brannan were the Shipbuilders on target.

Ryan Smith was North End’s matchwinner, scoring the only goal of the game away to Shettleston.

No joy though for Lochee Harp who were well beaten at Troon, going down 5-1. Indeed, Harp were five behind before they pulled one back after 81 minutes.

Forfar West End were on a hiding to nothing away to holders Auchinleck Talbot but put up a good fight, going in level at the interval, before eventually losing 4-2.

Sean Mcilroy’s opener was cancelled out by Craig Batchelor before the break, but Mcilroy’s second early in the second half regained the lead for Talbot.

Dwayne Hyslop added a third, but Cammy Mcmahon pulled one back for the visitors before a Calvin Kemp counter killed off the Angus club’s chances.

It was a frustrating day for Montrose Roselea as they went down to the game’s only goal at East Kilbride Thistle – particularly as, with little between the teams, Jonny Diack’s goal after 55 minutes was highly controversial, given there looked to be a clear push on a Roselea player in the build-up.

However, James Collier’s men paid the price for squandering the first-half chances they passed up and the two great saves from the home side’s stand-in keeper Creer.

Arbroath Vics were sunk without trace as West Region Premiership side Largs Thistle ran in nine goals without reply at Ogilvy Park.

Four Fife teams are through. Tayport’s opponents, Port Glasgow, were authors of their own downfall, finishing with nine men and on the wrong end of a 3-1 defeat.

The visitors started well enough but fell behind to a fine finish by Connor Ireland on seven minutes.

There was no further scoring before the break, but the visitors were reduced to 10 men when Barry Mclaughlin was sent off going into the changing rooms.

Port quickly capitalised when Dayle Robertson forced in a second from eight yards after 54 minutes.

Ross Cairns reduced the leeway within two minutes, but Steven Harris quickly restored the Fifers’ two-goal advantage with his first for the club.

Before the end, Steven Mcafee was red-carded to leave the visitors two men short.

Interim boss John Martin was twice on target as Glenrothes proved too strong for Brechin Vics at Warout.

Lea Schiavone was the Glens’ other marksman in the hosts’ 3-0 victory.

Thornton Hibs cruised into round three by smashing seven past North Region visitors Stoneywood Parkvale.

Indeed, it was the Memorial Park outfit’s biggest-ever win in the competition since joining the Juniors in 1935.

Ten-man Rosyth had to battle hard to edge out Newmains United courtesy of the only goal of the game.

Just four minutes after Gregg Page’s 21st minute goal, Craig Higgins was sent off.

However, a determined defensive display enabled the Fifers to progress.

Of the Perthshire clubs, only two progressed.

First-half goals from Ben Moffat and Ben English helped book Kinnoull’s passage to round three at home to Saltcoats Victoria.

Boss Alan Cameron was disappointed with the performance, but delighted to be in the hat for the next round.

Luncarty were 4-2 winners Stoneyburn. at
