Dods frustrated after late goal denies City

BRECHIN CITY 1 STRANRAER 1

Brechin and Stranraer shared the spoils following a 1-1 draw at Glebe Park.

City grabbed the lead in the 31st minute with a perfectly executed free-kick from Callum Tapping and they retained that advantage until five minutes from time when Blues substitute Luke Donnelly was on hand to slot a close-range equaliser after the hosts had failed to clear their lines.

City manager Darren Dods was disappointed with the outcome after his side had led for the vast majority of the 90 minutes.

“It was extremely annoying to lose a goal so late with the only shot Stranraer had on target over the course of the 90 minutes,” he said.

“I thought that we were well on top for much of the match but Stranraer changed their shape in the second half and those changes caused us problems in the closing stages.

“Having said that, I felt we defended really well throughout the match and we had chances on the break, but that final shot or final pass just didn’t come off for us and although we were pushing forward to grab that second goal which would have put the game to bed, one slip-up five minutes from time when we didn’t deal properly with a cross has cost us the win.”

Dods added: “We have to be pleased with the fact that we restricted a good Stranraer team to only one shot on target but equally we’re hugely disappointed that the only slip-up we made in the match led to Stranraer’s equaliser and the loss of two points.”
