Supersub Currie seals the points for Fifers

Darren Young hailed the impact of his supersubs after they helped to sink plucky Stenny at Bayview.

Youngster Rory Currie netted the clincher in stoppage time, adding to Craig Watson’s first-half opener.

It was the fourth time in as many games the on-loan Hearts striker has scored the winner after appearing from the bench.

He and club skipper Kevin Smith have been used by Young as a weapon late on in games recently, introducing them in the closing stages to torment the opposition.

And the Bayview boss is delighted with the impact they’re having.

He said: “Rory does what Rory does – comes on again, gets the goal and kills the game.

“He’s chapping the door and both he and Kevin are doing great.”

East Fife started the game at a terrific pace and kept their hosts penned back inside their own half.

Anton Dowds had an early strike at goal saved by Graeme Smith as the Methil men found their range.

It looked as if it would be just a matter of time before the home side opened the scoring, but Stenny, they dug in and defended well.

The game became scrappy and it appeared the Warriors would hold their hosts until the break.

But a few minutes before the interval East Fife took a deserved lead.

Scott Agnew’s corner into the six yard box wasn’t dealt with by the visiting defence and first to it was Craig Watson who powered his header beyond Smith.

The Fifers returned from the break looking to kill Stenny off but again found their visitors a tough nut to crack. Chances were few and far between, the best falling to Anton Dowds who cracked his effort off the post.

The longer the game went on the more Brown Ferguson’s side came into it, and it looked as if the game’s crucial second goal would go the way of the visitors.

East Fife were just managing to contain Stenny but eventually wrapped the game up. Agnew was tripped inside the box and ref Gavin Ross pointed straight to the spot.

Mark Docherty missed the penalty kick but the danger couldn’t be cleared, though, and first to react to the loose ball was Currie who netted the rebound.
