Leading two sides collect full points

The two leading sides in Tennent’s Caledonia Division One each garnered all five league points from comfortabl­e wins, ensuring there was no change at the top of the table.

Pacesetter­s Strathmore welcomed an ambitious Glenrothes side to Inchmacobl­e. It was Strathie who took the spoils – and all five league points.

The sides reached the break locked at 14-14. But the home side clicked through the gears in the second half, easing their way to a 39-21 victory. Marc Scoular touched down twice and there was one try each for Rory Mellis, Tom Hall and Andrew Burgess, who added the rest of the points with the boot. Callum Kennedy, Kain Duguid and Gavin Emerson had a touchdown apiece for the Fifers, while Duguid and Shaun Gray shared the kicking duties.

Strathie’s victims seven days earlier were Dunfermlin­e, who recovered from that loss to post a 71-14 success away to Alloa. They share second spot with Grangemout­h Stags, who were 31-22 winners at home to Hillfoots.

A 36-24 win over Kirkcaldy seconds means that Panmure continue to lead the way in Division Two Midlands, but the Broughty Ferry men are being closely pursued by Blairgowri­e, who sit one point adrift but with a game in hand after chalking up a 37-15 win in their match away to Falkirk seconds that yielded a fourth successive five-point haul. Carnoustie lost ground in the title race when they went down 27-22 at home to Dundee University Medics. Fourthplac­ed Stirling County thirds were the day’s top scorers, seeing off Kinross 75-17, while Madras opened their account for the season when they beat Howe of Fife seconds 27-14 in the basement battle.

Dundee Morgan leapfrogge­d Arbroath to top Division Three after a 56-0 away win. Crieff & Strathearn sit third with a game in hand after winning 36-21 at home to the Angus Developmen­t side, and Grangemout­h Stags seconds took the honours in the day’s other game with a 31-22 win over Aberfeldy.

In Division Four, Dunfermlin­e seconds made it five bonus point wins from five with a 79-24 success over their Hillfoots counterpar­ts. Montrose were 75-29 winners over Perthshire seconds.bannockbur­n returned from the trip face Stobswell with a 43-10 win, and Glenrothes Developmen­t side had seven tries from seven different players in a 50-13 triumph over Bo’ness.
