Dunfermline Reign supreme with demolition of Glasgow

-

Dunfermline Reign assistant coach John Day proudly praised the team’s display in beating Glasgow University 102-66 in the Scottish League on the GU court at the Stevenson Building on Saturday.

After a hard-fought first quarter, a run of 10 points took the Fifers to a 44-29 half-time lead and after a tight third, 23-20 to Reign, they ran riot in the final 10 minutes.

There was never any danger of a repeat of the overtime game when the two met last year.

“We were pleased with the win and especially pleased with the second half performance,” said Day.

“That was probably our best second half this season,” he claimed as Reign poured on 58 points – 35 in the final quarter.

Leading the assault was the athletic Jake Sirrell with 35 and playmaker Craig Ferguson with 28.

Sirrell’s tally contained only two threes as he mainly drove to the hoop or collected Ferguson’s long passes and Reign hardly noticed the absence of big man Eric Potts.

Nicky Sim also caught the eye with his steals, dummies and assists and added 10 while Gordon Young had 11.

Another proud coach was Chris Kindlen whose Abertay team beat Strathclyde 2nds 79-70 in the BUCS League while Dundee Madsons cadet (U16) team beat Grampian Flyers 78-75 in the Scottish League at Menzieshill on Saturday.
