Finland training chance for Perth pole vaulter Gordon

- Anna Gordon is to train in Finland.

Perth pole vaulter Anna Gordon is heading to Finland to begin a year’s training with a world-class coach.

Four-time consecutive Scottish Indoor Champion Gordon began pole vaulting at the age of 14 and progressed quickly over the next five years to win the British Universities Championships.

She also broke her own Scottish junior record and the 4m barrier, was selected for the GB junior team and earned a bronze medal in the 2016 British Senior Championships.

After two years fighting injuries, Gordon is fully fit again, as competitive as ever and desperate to make up for lost time.

On graduating from university in July she decided to dedicate a year to seeing how far she could reach her dreams in athletics, so this offer of top-class coaching comes at just the right time.

“I am so lucky to have this chance,” said Gordon.

“I know Finland is a very expensive place to live but my parents and family are so supportive and a lot of local people and businesses have been really generous in donating to my GoFundMe Finland Fund.

“That money, as well as the proceeds from selling my car, has helped me get the year’s coaching fees together.

“I’m still optimistic that I might get some kind of sponsorship deal to help with living expenses once I begin competing again.”
