Loons boss sets sights on hat-trick of wins

-

Forfar manager Jim Weir is determined the Station Park men continue their rise up the League 1 table by winning at Airdrie.

The Loons have moved from eighth spot into a play-off place on the back of wins over Stenhousemuir and Raith Rovers with Weir looking for a hat-trick to be completed against the Diamonds.

The manager said: “This is a chance for us to put together a three-game winning run and not many teams have done that in this league so far.

“If we can win then we will have taken nine points from nine and in a league as tight as this that is a great run. Winning consecutively has a positive impact on your place in the table and we are going out to do it again.

“It will not be easy as Airdrie will not have been happy with losing to Stenhousemuir last weekend on what was their new manager Ian Murray’s opening game.

“They had played really well the week before when they won 3-0 at Montrose so they will be out to make amends against us.”

A display similar to the second 45 minutes against the Kirkcaldy side would be welcomed in Lanarkshire with Weir, whose side lost 3-1 against the Diamonds on the opening day of the league season, adding: “We started well last Saturday but we lost our way a bit during the spell when they scored their two goals.

“They were the better team going in 2-1 ahead at the break however the players deserve credit for the way they went about things in the second half.

“We were much more on the front foot and pushed Raith back quite a bit. We created loads of chances and Dale Hilson could have had a hattrick. However, we settled for the 3-2 win. There were certainly no complaints about the second-half display. It would be terrific to play in that manner for the entire 90 minutes down at Airdrie.”

Loons trio Michael Kennedy, Aidan Wilson and Matty Aitken are still out injured.
