Ambitious Bollan throws down Cowden gauntlet

Cowdenbeath entertain Elgin City this afternoon, with manager Gary Bollan determined that his side make Central Park a fortress.

The Blue Brazil go into the League Two game after a 3-0 away win over a Berwick Rangers side that finished with only eight men.

Bollan has now challenged his players to show that they can become a top-halfof-the-table outfit.

He said: “It was an acceptable performance at Shielfield, although the three sendings-off made it a strange game.

“We kept a clean sheet, scored three goals and picked up three points and you have to be happy with that.

“The dismissals were not really any of our business and we can only play what is in front of us and the boys did that well.

“We now face an Elgin team that we played just three weeks ago and came home empty-handed.

“We started that game really well and managed to get ourselves in front. However a lack of concentration allowed them back into the game and they went on to win 3-1.

There was nothing between the teams and I am sure that will be the case in this game, so we need to come up with something that will help us come out on top.”

After a league success over Stirling and a cup victory over Clyde on home soil, Bollan wants to make Cowden’s home the base for a victory and move closer to the top clubs.

He explained: “We have home advantage and we have to look to make that count. We have won our last two games at Central Park and we want to make that three. To do anything in this league you have to win at home consistently and this game gives us a chance to show we can do that.”

David McGurn is available again for goalkeeping duties after a one-match ban with new recruit Gary Fraser also available after a suspension.
