CARNOUSTIE: The Probus club held its Christmas lunch at the Station Hotel, with 66 members and guests attending. They were entertaine­d by a brass ensemble from the High School under the direction of instructor Mike Robertson. The group also enjoyed listening to members of the Sisterhood Choir. The next meeting of the club is on January 9 when the speaker will be John Knox.

ARBROATH: Mo Morrison, president of Arbroath Lifeboat Guild, has thanked all those who have supported the group this year.

The Guild will be back in action on January 1 at the Arbroath lifeboat shed for the New Year’s Day dook at 12.30pm. Members will be on duty from noon, serving tea, coffee and soup for supporters and “dookers”.

HILLSIDE: A nativity with a difference will go ahead this Sunday at 11am in Hillside Church, as various members of the congregati­on will be given parts to play. Everyone is welcome to attend what is always a popular service with the opportunit­y to sing some favourite carols.

MONIFIETH: Instead of a talk by a visiting speaker, members of Monifieth Probus Club enjoyed a quiz, a free raffle and a concert of carols and other seasonal music by the Close Harmony Glee Club at their last session.

CORTACHY: A Christingl­e service will be held on Sunday at Cortachy Church from 4pm. Donations will be gratefully received and shared between Cortachy Primary School and the church.

ARBROATH: Angus music fans are invited to strike a pose next year when hit touring show Into The Groove visits the Webster Memorial Theatre.

Recreating highlights from Madonna’s live tours, the show pays tribute to the classic songs. Tickets for the show, on Saturday October 19, are available at www.angusalive.scot/tickets
