A man and woman have appeared in court in connection with the alleged theft of Christmas presents from a Kirkcaldy home.

Gordon McArthur, 41, and Pamela Hunter, 38, were remanded in custody at the town’s sheriff court.

The gifts were alleged to have been taken during a break-in early on Wednesday.

It is also alleged that cash was later taken using a stolen card. The value of the gifts allegedly stolen from the Chestnut Avenue home and the money totalled more than £700, police said.

McArthur was charged with theft by housebreaking and fraud and Hunter was charged with fraud and reset.

The pair, both of Kirkcaldy, made no plea when they appeared in private in front of Sheriff Alison McKay yesterday and their case was continued for further examination.

Police said the two accused were quickly traced and charged. They also said most of the presents had been recovered and returned to the owner.

A warning was issued by police to householders to take particular care in the run-up to Christmas in ensuring their homes and property were secure to avoid becoming victims of crime.

Detective Constable Mike Nodes said: “There are, unfortunately, people who will take advantage of knowing that there may be a number of high-value items under the tree at this time of year.

“Ensure that your home is kept secure at all times and please remain vigilant.

“Look out for any suspicious behaviour around your property and your neighbours’.”

Anyone concerned about suspicious activity is urged to call police on 101, providing descriptions of any people or vehicles involved, or to dial 999 if they see a crime in progress.

“Ensure that your home is kept secure at all times. DETECTIVE CONSTABLE MIKE NODES
