Six-month community payback order for domestic assault case

-

An Angus man who admitted assaulting his partner after they attended a wedding together has been placed on a six-month community payback order.

Ryan Haggart, 34, of Commerce Street, Arbroath, pled guilty at an earlier appearance at Forfar Sheriff Court to assaulting his partner at Camus Road, Arbroath, on November 11.

Depute fiscal Laura McGillvery told the court the accused and his partner had attended a wedding on November 10 at Newgate Bowling Club.

A guest told the complainer her partner had been fighting and she went home without him “due to his intoxicated state”.

She said: “At about 1am she was in the bedroom and heard banging from downstairs. He was trying to kick the back door in.”

He entered the house and went up to the bedroom where he was asked to leave.

The accused punched her on the back of her head, tried to pin her against a wall and pushed her on the bed.

She continued: “He was on top of her and was about to punch her when another in the house restrained the accused and contacted the police.”

Haggart also admitted behaving in a threatening of abusive manner likely to cause fear or alarm, repeatedly striking the back door of his partner’s home, gaining entry, acting in an aggressive manner and refused to leave.

Also at Forfar:

Reece Walters, 24, of Stoneycroft Lane, Arbroath, was sentenced to a community payback order of 80 hours.

He pled guilty at an earlier court appearance to producing cannabis at his home on December 24 2017.
