Robb leads Pride to fine win

-

Former Tayside star Hannah Robb captained Caledonia Pride to their best win of the season so far when they beat Cardiff Met Archers 84-53 in the Women’s BBL at Oriam, Edinburgh on Saturday.

The Edinburgh University student, who had struggled with an ankle injury for much of the early part of the season, gave an inspiring all-round performance scoring 12 points and adding six assists, three rebounds, two steals and a block in 28 minutes on court.

Only Cameroon star Tia Weledji outscored her with 26 points while Shawnisay Millar also had 12.

But with 11 out of the 12 Pride players scoring this was a satisfying all-round performance from a very young team, who now have four league wins to sit comfortably in mid-table.

Even Perth Phoenix cadette Ella Doherty, who is still only 15, hit a threepointer.

Meanwhile another Arbroath star Gareth Murray was delighted with Glasgow Rocks’ latest win, an 81-72 home success in the BBL Trophy over Worcester Wolves at the Emirates Arena.

Murray was one of three Scottish internationalists to stand out, scoring 14 points in a big 32-minute stint and adding three rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Falkirk’s Ali Fraser went even better with 22 points from 11 in 12 attempts and adding six rebounds, one assist, a steal and a block to answer his critics.

And to round off a great display by Scotland’s 2018 Commonwealth Games heroes, Fraser’s former Falkirk clubmate Kieron Achara gave another solid display scoring nine points, adding 10 rebounds, five assists, two blocks and a steal.
