Dundee United’s players are happy to embrace the change of ownership at the club, according to Fraser Aird.

The Canadian international revealed the Tangerines’ squad had been kept informed as the takeover by American businessman Mark Ogren unfolded at Tannadice.

A different regime in the boardroom could be seen as a source of uncertainty and even anxiety by Aird and his colleagues, who might wonder if they will be part of Ogren’s American dream.

However, Aird is looking forward to deals being done when the January transfer window opens in just over a week in the hope that new faces on the park as well as off the pitch will boost their promotion chances.

Aird, who claimed an assist for what turned out to be the winning goal from Pavol Safranko in United’s 2-1 victory over Falkirk on Saturday, said: “We got a message into our group chat the other day to say it (the takeover) had gone through.

“We had heard a lot of rumours beforehand so it was important to get a message to confirm what was happening.

“The (former) chairman Mike Martin came in and said his goodbyes and I would give massive credit to him because he helped bring in most of the players who are here.

“He wanted to get the club going back in the right direction and I think he did that.

“He brought in the players but he also brought in the new manager so I would show him gratitude for that.

“We now have a new chairman who obviously has some bright ideas.

“He has the best interest of the club at heart and hopefully we can kick on again and get promoted under the new owner.

“I suppose when this happens you are in that don’t know/grey area about your future.

“But we are players and we were signed and brought here to play.

“If we keep doing our job on the pitch then hopefully it makes their decision easy for them when it comes to your future.

“If they are going to go and spend money to bring in players who will benefit the team then all the boys will be happy.

“We have one goal and it is to get promoted. I think it is always going to be our target and if or when they go and get new players in January then hopefully that will benefit the club as a whole and help us go and get up to the Premiership.”
