Kelty Hearts have opened up a fourpoint gap to The Spartans in fourth place and maintained the challenge to East Kilbride and BSC Glasgow following a 3-1 win at Peffermill against Edinburgh University.

Brian Ritchie put Hearts in front on 11 minutes and Chris Dodd scored his first goal as a Kelty player to make it 2-0 eight minutes later.

The students threatened a comeback with a goal on 52 minutes but that was instantly stubbed out by Ross Mutch who made it 3-1 just 60 seconds later.

Oakley United threw away a 2-0 half-time lead and had to settle for a point from their trip at Olivebank.

James McAteer put United in front on 38 minutes and Joe Dawson doubled the advantage in first-half stoppage time.

Musselburgh were a different team in the second half and pulled a goal back within four minutes of the restart through Hogg, and they deservedly equalised with seven minutes remaining through Nathan Evans.

Conference C

Ten-man Jeanfield Swifts their attempt to go Scotland failed in top of Conference C and needed a stoppage-time penalty from Connor McLaren to take a point from the visit of Blackburn United.

Robbie Holden put Swifts in to a deserved lead after nine minutes but that great start was undone midway through the second half when the visitors were awarded a penalty and Gary Fergus was sent off, Blackburn converting the kick.

Blackburn took the lead on 54 minutes only for McLaren to convert the late penalty to take a point for Ross Gunnion’s men.

St Andrews United had to come from behind twice to earn a draw at home to Heriot Watt University.

The visitors took the lead after just five minutes but Saints levelled it up on 25 minutes through a Michael Fleming strike.

The students went back in front 10 minutes after the break from the penalty spot, but the home side were back level within 60 seconds through Ollie Fleming.

Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts took a point from their trip to Stirling University EOS, coming from 2-0 down to draw 2-2.

Ben McCann pulled the first back for Swifts with Captain Ryan O’Conner scoring a late penalty.
