Legendary former nightclub’s long wait for a buyer ends

-

A buyer for an iconic former Angus nightspot may have finally been found, raising hopes that the building, which has been languishing on the property market, might finally be put to good use.

The Flicks nightclub in Brechin had been listed for auction in October with a guide price of £75,000.

It was then earmarked to go under the hammer in April at just £30,000 – less than half the previous guide price.

However, the listing has been changed to “sold prior” on the auction website.

The selling agents for the property are keeping tightlipped about the transaction, saying only that it should be completed “in four weeks”.

Angus Council had previously expressed an interest in purchasing the building with a view to turning it into affordable homes, but a senior council insider denied the local authority was the buyer.

Brechin and Edzell SNP councillor Kenny Braes said he hoped something would be done with the landmark “sooner rather than later”.

“I saw on social media that the building had potentially been sold,” he said.

“If that is really the case, then I sincerely hope that the new purchaser tidies the building up, and puts the building to good use quickly.

“We have been here before with this building, and it has fallen through, so I hope that this time around something positive will happen.”

In its nightclub heyday, clubbers from across the UK travelled to Brechin to see a string of music and television celebrities, including Pete Waterman and Michaela Strachan of the TV show Hit Man and Her.
