Brechin draw ‘just what Fifers need’

-

East Fife boss Darren Young believes a goalless draw at Brechin in midweek was just what his team needed.

And he hopes that will be proved by today’s performance against Stranraer.

Young said: “We were the better team at Glebe Park but we could not score. I am not too down heartened by the result as I believe it could be a turning point in our season.

“We had been losing bad goals and losing games however we kept a clean sheet, which was great for the confidence of Daniel Terry in goal.

“We were short of attacking options as Kevin Smith and Rory Currie did not start as they were injured, Anton Dowds missed out through illness and Scott Agnew was not able to add creativity in midfield due his shoulder problem so I can understand why we never scored.”

Young added: “However we got a point that took us further away from Montrose and Airdrie and the draw has given us a good platform ahead of having two home games.

“We can really go looking for the six points from Stranraer and then Stenhousemuir. If we pick up the six points, then we are really in a strong position for the run-in to the season.

“Stranraer have picked up better results recently in their bid to get away from relegation issues. We know that they are a side that can score goals as well as lose them. They came back from three goals down to draw at our place earlier in the season and we won 4-3 at Stair Park in the next meeting despite being two goals behind twice.

“They were two up against Raith last weekend and then got pegged back to 2-2 so they are still scoring and conceding.”
