Wanderers aim to boost first title hopes

-

With the finishing line fast a p p r o a c h i n g t h e r e ’ s congestion at the top of the Premier League table as four teams jockey for pole position in the title run-in.

The outcome of today’s clash between MJV Dundee Wanderers and Western Wildcats at Dalnacraig could have a significant impact on the Taysiders’ challenge for a first outdoor crown.

Vikki Bunce & co should draw confidence from being the highest scorers in the league, and there’s every chance a positive outcome will propel them into second place behind defending champions Edinburgh University.

The students are bankers to pocket a further three points against bottom of the table Grange with Clydesdale Western also tipped to keep the pressure on with a home win over Glasgow University.

Elsewhere in Glasgow Grove Menzieshill go on the hunt for the single point which would cement a topsix finish. However, a win for Hillhead would keep the home side within touching distance.

Local university sides St Andrews and Dundee seem unlikely to improve on their current Division 2 status with divergent road trips to Aberdeen and the Borders.

Grove IIS entertain Championship 1 table- toppers Edinbugh Uni II at DISC, while prospects of Stirling Uni taking anything from Waverley Inveresk Trinity are slim.

Likewise in Champ II where Perthshire and Kinross have tough away assignments against Stirling Wanderers and Strathclyde Uni today, while the latter also hit the road for the capital to line up against Erskine Stewart’s Melville tomorrow.

With no league matches scheduled for today, district action is limited to KO Cup and Plate contests. In round 2 of the cup it’s Madras v Perthshireiiandstandrews IV against Wanderers II. Brechin Thistles welcome Blairgowrie in the first round Plate match-up.

Midweek result: KO Cup round 1 – St Andrews University III 4 Monarchs 1.
