Meghan hoping to fish out a prize at culinary championships
A talented student at Dundee & Angus College is hoping to cook up a treat as she competes in the Scottish Culinary Championships at Scotland’s food, drink, hospitality and tourism trade show this week.
Scothot 2019 is a bi-annual two-day event at Glasgow’s SEC Centre which showcases the best talent across the country.
The competition gives chefs of all ages the chance to display their skills.
One such hopeful who passed the selection process is Meghan Wright, a Professional Cookery student at Dundee & Angus College.
She has been practising tirelessly in her own time over the last couple of months in preparation to compete in the sustainable fish category.
The 22-year-old, who is originally from America but now lives in Laurencekirk, moved to Angus in 2017 and soon excelled in her studies.
One of her first achievements was to create a new dessert recipe for Carnoustie Golf Hotel’s menu.
Looking ahead to her participation in Scothot, she said: “Being given the opportunity to take part in Scothot is a great achievement for me in my career as a chef.
“Continuing to take on challenges like this will expand my knowledge and skills in the industry.
“I have been practising hard and I am grateful for the time the college has taken to prepare me for this.”
Professional Cookery lecturer Debbie Robson praised Meghan’s commitment, saying: “Meghan has always shown a natural passion and has worked on many projects during her time at D&A College.
“I am extremely proud that she has made it this far and I look forward to seeing how she does on March 13.”
