Bollan feels Cowden side should have brought home more than one point

-

BERWICK RANGERS 1 COWDENBEATH 1

Cowdenbeath picked up a point from a 1-1 draw against Berwick at Shielfield on Saturday – but manager Gary Bollan said afterwards it could have been more.

“A point is a point,” he said, “but it might have been more than one if we had chosen the right options at the right time.

“We passed the ball about well, but it was our decision-making in the final third which let us down.”

Cowdenbeath were aiming to make it four wins out of four against Rangers this season, but were dealt an injury blow just minutes before kick-off when striker Kris Renton pulled up with a knee injury in the warm-up and had to be replaced by Jordan Allan.

Calum Adamson, with his third goal in four games, gave Berwick a first-half lead, but Robert Buchanan equalised before the break.

But the story of the day was that Berwick, now without a win in 14 games, saw their Second Division survival bid points cushion cut dramatically.

Albion Rovers, who benefited from the award of three points by the league, won only their second game of the season by beating Stirling Albion, and as a result saw the deficit at the bottom of the table cut from seven to two points.

With nine minutes gone Adamson broke through on goal from almost halfway, but with Jamie Todd chasing him back he was unable to get his shot on target.

It was Adamson who broke the deadlock on 24 minutes, latching on to a Daryl Healy pass to beat the offside trap and finish past David Mcgurn.

On 31 minutes Buchanan equalised when he turned the ball in from close range following a cross by David Cox.

Jordan Allan burst through for Cowdenbeath after 36 minutes, but he was denied by a timely tackle as he shot from 10 yards out.

The second half provided little goalmouth action. Berwick sub Andy Forbes cleared the ball off the Berwick goal-line at a Cowdenbeath corner and Cowden’s Blair Malcolm fired narrowly wide.

Berwick substitute Declan O’kane was sent off late on for a high-foot challenge.
