Above par Gowfers open up a four-point lead

Carnoustie Panmure have opened up a four-point lead at the top of the Super league North after a 4-1 win over Kirriemuir Thistle at Westview Park.

Sam Simpson opened things for Carnoustie from the penalty spot on 19 minutes after a cross from Brian Clark was handled in the box and then made it two when the visitors were awarded a second penalty just before the break after Clark had been fouled.

A minute into the second half and it was three when Kirrie goal keeper Daryl Burns, who had restricted Carnoustie to just one goal last weekend, dropped a Ryan Dignan effort in to his own net.

Just after the hour mark Jamie Winter scored the goal of the game to make it 4-0. Cameron Black pulled a goal back after a goalmouth scramble on 74 minutes but that was as far as it got for Darren Scott’s side as Phil Mcguire’s Gowfers comfortabl­y saw out the remaining minutes.

It was always going to be an interestin­g encounter at Farquharso­n Park as new Forfar West End boss Derek Lawson took his new side back to his former club in his first game in the hot seat. Lawson’s new charges laid down a marker with their first win of the season. Graeme Hart scored twice alongside goals from Cammy Mcmahon and Mike Mcilravey in a comfortabl­e 4-0 victory.

Downfield came from behind to take a point against Broughty Athletic at Downfield Park. The visitors took the lead on 42 minutes when Josh Skelly marked his second debut for the club with a goal from the penalty spot. However, The Spiders were in no mood to drop all three points and scored a deserved equaliser through Dale Davidson in the second half.

Dundee North End jumped above Broughty Athletic in the Super League North table on goal difference after they thrashed Luncarty 5-0 away from home. Frankie Devine scored twice alongside strikes from Jack Allan, Liam Mcartney and debut boy Jamie Montgomery.

In Super League South, Kennoway Star Hearts came from behind to lead against Bathgate Thistle at Treaton Park before having to settle for a draw. Darren Dalrymple put the visitors in front on 25 minutes and the Lothian side led at half time.

Paul Ferrier equalised on 58 minutes and within 60 seconds, Jason Watson made it 2-1. With 12 minutes left, Robbie Feeney was tripped in the box and converted the spot-kick to take a point.

Leaders Fauldhouse United arrived at Memorial Park with just 13 fit players for the game against Thornton Hibs but Craig Gilbert’s men were in no mood to be charitable, thrashing the Lothian side 7-0. Daniel Mcnab scored the first on 21 minutes before Ben Anthony added a double on 38 and 42 to send Hibs in at the break, 3-0 in front. The goals continued after half-time, Garry Thomson added a fourth on 52 with Mcnab scoring his second to make it 5-0 with 20 minutes left. Garry Thomson then added his own second goal and Hibs’ sixth on 84 with Shaun Keatings scoring the seventh goal in added time.

The sending off of Todd Arthur for Lochore Welfare on 30 minutes at Whitburn turned the game away from the Fife side leading to a 4-1 defeat. Gary Brass had opened the scoring for Whitburn but Logan Donaldson levelled before Arthur appeared to be shown a red card. The home side added three further goals through Daniel Moran, Andy Thomson and Dewi Taylor

Blairgowri­e remain at the top of the Premier League North following a 2-1 win over in-form Arbroath Vics at Davie Park. Gary Axworthy scored the first on 46 minutes and Matty Adam made it two with 20 minutes remaining. Andi Manolache pulled a goal back for Eddie Gray’s Vics late on but despite pressure they couldn’t find an equaliser.

Managerles­s Brechin Vics went down 3-1 at home to Dundee Violet at Victoria Park. Sean Tucker, Jay Taylor and Derek Johnstone put Violet 3-0 in front at the break with Rikki Gillespie scoring a consolatio­n for Vics in the second half.

Forfar Albion new boy Andy Pattulo, signed from Dundee Violet, scored on his debut as Steven Stewart’s men beat Coupar Angus 3-1 at Guthrie Park. The win lifts Albion above Lochee Harp and Coupar Angus at the bottom of the table.

East Craigie laboured to victory against Lochee Harp at Craigie Park, The only goal of the game came from Fraser Mcleod and sees Harp drop to bottom of the Premier League North.

Quest Precision Engineerin­g Cup Round 1: Montrose Roselea went out of the Quest Precision Engineerin­g Cup at the First Round stage after going down 1-0 at home to Culter.
