Acting legend’s car among four in Fife accident
ROADS: Ghostbusters star Bill Murray was seen speaking to police following incident
Actor Bill Murray has been involved in a four-vehicle road accident while in St Andrews for the Dunhill Links.
The star of Ghostbusters, Groundhog Day and Lost in Translation is understood to have hurt his hand in the collision on Greyfriars Garden yesterday.
Wearing a cowboy hat, Murray, who celebrated his 69th birthday on Saturday, could be seen speaking to police officers in the street.
Local resident Innes Muir, 19, was passing by shortly after the collision took place.
“I saw the aftermath of it,” he said. “He hurt his hand and had an ice pack on it. He was in high spirits and said he was still hoping to play golf.”
Police Scotland confirmed four vehicles, including one belonging to Fife Council, had been involved in an incident on Greyfriars Garden, which joins the busy thoroughfares of Market Street and North Street, at around 1pm.
A police spokeswoman said: “They have all exchanged details and there is no other police involvement.”
She added there had been no need for an ambulance to attend.
Murray is just one of the big names in the Fife town for the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
Also playing with the professionals at the Old Course are singer and actor Justin Timberlake and Downton Abbey star Henry Talbot.
Fife Council service manager Tom Henderson confirmed a local authority vehicle had been involved in an incident in St Andrews yesterday.
He added: “Until an investigation is carried out it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”
It’s not the first time Murray’s antics have raised eyebrows in St Andrews.
In 2006, the star partied into the wee small hours with a group of Scandinavian students.
Norwegian Lykke Stavnef, then 22, told reporters how he drunk vodka from a coffee cup and offered to wash the dishes.
Tom Wright, 22, another student, said: “The party was overflowing with stunning Scandinavian blondes.
“He seemed to be in his element, cracking lots of jokes.
“It was the talk of the town the next day.”
