Familiar frustration for boss

James Mcpake admitted that he is “going over old ground” with his post-match reflections, writes Eric Nicolson.

The Dundee boss believed the Queen of the South draw was the same old story as in previous weeks when points have been dropped.

“We’re frustrated again,” said Mcpake. “It’s another missed opportunity and another game where the main problem was in the final third. I’m going over old ground.

“I’m picking positives so I don’t sound like a broken record – there was a lot of character shown after going a goal down. We then controlled the game.

“We need to be better at the top end and that’s where my frustration lies tonight.

“It was similar last week. We had chances to win. It’s a point but for me it’s two points dropped.

“We know it will turn. We’re back at home next week and we need to be ready for it.”

Mcpake mentioned a Cammy Kerr goal-line clearance after the full-back had been at fault for Morton’s winner on Saturday.

“I was the one who had a pop at Cammy last week but he saved us today,” he said.

Graham Dorrans played the full match and Mcpake said: “That’s his first 90 minutes in more than two years so that’s a massive positive. That was more than I wanted to give him in his first game, especially on an artificial pitch.

“You can see his quality and game knowledge.

“If there’s a big positive it’s him getting through 90 minutes with no problems.”

Queens boss Allan Johnston said: “I thought we deserved more than a draw.

“On the balance of play we had the better chances. There were a lot of good moments individually and collectively.

“We were strong towards the end and it’s a performance we need to build on.

“We were playing against one of the favourites for the division and should have got more than a point.”
