Loons sign two new faces as Weir returns

-

Forfar manager Jim Weir has bolstered his squad with two temporary loan signings after fears he was only going to be able to list 12 outfield players for today’s home clash with League 1 leaders Raith Rovers.

The Loons boss – who will resume his seat in the dugout after missing last week’s win over Montrose as he was recovering from a car crash – has added midfielder Archie Macphee from Formartine United and striker Russell Mclean from Montrose.

Both players have signed on temporary transfers until January.

Weir worked with 26-year-old Macphee – who scored 59 goals in two seasons for Highland League Formartine – during his spell in charge at Elgin while Maclean, 21, played for Alloa and Peterhead before making the move to Links Park in January.

Weir missed out on a training night last Thursday as well as the victory over the Gable Endies following the crash 12 days ago and he admitted that it was hard to sit still at home getting updates on his side’s game.

The Loons boss said: “I was at training on Thursday and will carry out some of my duties at the Raith game.

“Beating Montrose was a fantastic result but waiting on updates from the game was not enjoyable.

“Thankfully I am on the mend and getting stronger every day. I am looking forward to being at this one.”

The Angus side are without strikers Andy Jackson, Dale Hilson and Rory Currie and veteran midfielder Scott Robertson, though defender Sean Burns has recovered from a knock after missing the derby victory.

Weir said: “Rovers have been picking up good results and John Mcglynn has recruited well.

“Signing Steven Anderson from St Johnstone on loan is a great move.”

“We will be makeshift but will look to build on the Montrose game.”
