Justin Rose annoyed after sub-60 round eludes him

-

Justin Rose admitted feeling a slight sense of frustration, despite moving into contention on the second day of the Dunhill Links.

The world number four is tied fifth after following a 68 at Carnoustie with an eight-under 64 at Kingsbarns.

Rose made a blistering start with a collection of seven birdies and an eagle in a front nine of only 28 strokes before a double bogey six at the 11th ended hopes of a sub-60 round.

He said: “It was an unbelievable front nine. It was a great round and it has got me in the tournament.

“I had 11 birdies so I’m never going to be disappointed with that. One double obviously. I was aware I was going low but I was super relaxed. Sometimes you get in your own way when you’re on a really good run. I just got caught out on the 11th which is a tough hole and I made the mistake of missing left.

“I knew left was no good. I didn’t realise quite how bad it was.

“It was a quick double but I felt every time I made a mistake, I bounced back pretty quickly.”

Rose is playing alongside 10-time Grammy award winner Justin Timberlake in the pro-am event that runs alongside the individual competition with the pair sitting tied 25th on 16 under.

Timberlake said: “The experience has been incredible. Everyone is so kind and happy we’re here and it feels good. We’re having a blast.”

Swede Joakim Lagergren carded the lowest round of the day with a 10-under 62 at Kingsbarns to move tied second alongside Calum Hill and Matthew Southgate and only one behind leader Matthew Jordan.

World number two Rory Mcilroy is tied 33rd on eight under after a 66 at Kingsbarns.
