Brechin looking to build on their first home league win

Manager Wilson demanding his ‘perky’ players make it two in a row

Brechin boss Mark Wilson is determined to make it back-to-back victories this afternoon to increase the new found feelgood factor at the club.

The Angus side secured their first home league win of the season last Saturday with a last-gasp 2-1 victory over Elgin City.

The result also lifted Brechin off the bottom of the League 2 table and Wilson’s men are one point ahead of today’s opponents Stirling Albion.

Now, the former Dundee United and Celtic full-back is demanding his “perky” players capitalise on that boost and make it two league wins in a row.

Wilson said: “It was really enjoyable to get that win last week, especially considering the way we played.

“Our goalie had to make a few good saves but that’s going to happen in this league.

“Teams will always concede chances to each other but I was still pleased with how we played.

“A lot of our build-up play was good and the chances we created were decent ones.

“Looking back on the video at the goals we scored, they were excellent.

“They were well worked and even in the last minute when you think boys might be tired and make mistakes or wrong decisions, Ryan Mccord receives the ball and has the composure to play in young Kieran Inglis, whose finish was brilliant.

“There was a lot to be pleased about and we just have to keep working at it.”

Wilson added: “It would be great to get another win this week and that would give us a real platform to work from.

“It is never nice to be bottom of the table even after just a few games.

“When you look at it, it’s never a nice feeling so to get off that position is a nice wee boost.

“The boys have reacted really well in training. They were much perkier on Monday and Wednesday.

“That comes with securing a win so to get a couple of victories would lift the mood even further and that’s the objective this week.”

Wilson received another boost this week with an easing of his injury crisis.

He added: “Injury wise, it is probably looking the best since I came in three weeks ago.

“We had 16 outfield players training on Wednesday which was a boost rather than the 10 I came into.

“Ross Sinclair is coming back to fitness and should be ready next week.

“Sean Mcintosh has been given the all-clear from his scan on his broken foot, which is a boost as well.”
