Girvan at Canniepairt for replay showdown

Tayport host Ayrshire men after 5-5 thriller

- By Mark Johnson

Macron Scottish Junior Cup secondround replay

Tayport and Girvan shared an incredible 10 goals in last weekend’s tie in Ayrshire so the sides must do it all again today at the Canniepairt.

With so many goals in the first game, Tayport boss Chris Mcpherson would be happy with a narrow 1-0 win. He is helped by the return of Ryan Suttie and Greg Whyte but Dale Robertson and Conor Ireland are both missing.

Following last weekend’s postponement, Kirrie Thistle head north to take on Aberdeen side Maud in the second round.

Darren Scott managed to arrange a friendly against Brechin Vics in midweek to keep his squad relatively fresh and that resulted in an emphatic 8-1 victory for the Super League North side. Thistle travel north without Davie Millar and Ross Grant but have added former player Robert Smith to the squad.

Carnoustie Panmure manager Phil Mcguire will be looking for his troops to bounce back from last weekend’s disappointing defeat to Fauldhouse United as they host Forfar West End at Laing Park.

The Gowfers will be without the holidaying Brian Clark, while Harvey Dailly is suspended.

West End travel to Carnoustie unbeaten in the four games since Daryl Mckenzie’s departure. Last weekend saw Derek Lawson’s new side win 4-2 at Maryhill and they go into the game against the league leaders in confident mood.

Lawson does, however, have four players missing with Michael Mcilravey, Davie Rae, Paul Weir and Jordan Timmons all out.

There is likely to be a keenly contested derby at North End as the home side host Downfield.

The Spiders will make the short journey confident of bursting the North End bubble after an impressive win over Greenock last weekend.

Downfield manager Paul Marr is expected to have the same squad available that beat the West Region side.

North End were highly impressive in beating Whitburn 4-1 last weekend in the Macron Scottish Junior Cup but manager Ross Lunan will be very wary of a Downfield side that will be itching to put one over their city rivals.

Lunan is without Frankie Devine after he was sent off last weekend but otherwise expects his squad to be along the same lines.

Lochee United face something of a rarity in a league game such are their cup commitments at the moment but they will want to make sure the clubs at the top don’t get too far ahead and that they can close the gap when they catch up with league games.

Manager George Shields has been limited with his selections due to injuries and once again he is without several players –Bryan Deasley, Scott Webster, Connor Birse and Craig Smith are all sidelined and Alan Tulleth is on holiday – for the game against second-placed Scone Thistle at Thomson Park.

Broughty Athletic made tough work of beating a physical Glasgow Perthshire in last week’s Scottish Junior Cup clash in the west but Daryl Mckenzie’s lastminute winner was deserved.

This weekend sees Jamie Mccunnie’s side return to league action with a trip to Brownlands Park to take on Luncarty.

Mccunnie is expected to have the same squad that travelled through to Glasgow seven days ago. Mcbookie.com North Region Super League

Montrose Roselea welcome Hall Russell United to Links Park.

The visitors are one point behind Roselea having played one game more, so a lot will be at stake.

The Aberdeen side went down 3-0 at home to Lochee United while Roselea were losing 3-1 at Troon in last week’s Scottish Cup ties against strong opposition.

Roselea will be buoyed by their performance in Troon and their second half performance deserved a lot better than the end outcome.

On the plus front, Montrose were delighted to see Steven Smith back in training after his ankle injury, while Lloyd Hester is being assessed for a return to training having been out for two years. Blair Stephen is unavailable.
