Scots star in amazing last-gasp win for GB

-

Scotland’s Charlotte Watson and Sarah Robertson lined up for Great Britain as they nailed down a morale-boosting Test series win over India yesterday.

It was another impressive performance from the 21-year-old Dundee Wanderers star, who was very unlucky not to add to her debut goal in Wednesday’s victory.

With the side 2-0 down going into the final five minutes, GB pulled off a late smash and grab, Robertson’s slide-rule pass steered home by Lizzie Neal before Anna Toman smashed an overtime penalty corner past India’s keeper Savita.

Completing the series with two draws and a victory, the squad now have just under a month left before facing Chile in the crucial Olympic Qualifiers for Tokyo 2020.

Meanwhile the Premiership match-of-theday takes place this afternoon between Clydesdale Western and near neighbours Western Wildcats.

Dundee Wanderers and Grove Menzieshill have also posted two wins from two but while the former can look forward to increasing their tally against bottom markers Hillhead, the latter can expect a torrid afternoon against a Watsonians side who stunned five-time champions Edinburgh University on day one.

The students swiftly rebounded to rattle up an 8-0 score last week, on the strength of which newlypromoted Merlins Gordonians will anticipate a non-stop barrage when they pitch up at Peffermill.

Home advantage may just tip the scales in favour of Cala Edinburgh over St Andrews University in Division Two, while Grove IIS youngsters may find Edinburgh Uni’s threes have a bit too much savvy until they find their feet in Championship One.

Dundee University’s visit to Falkirk and Linlithgow could also be a step too far for the students who were late starters in Champ Two. Kinross make their Champ Three entry away to Wildcats II, while St Andrews II welcome Highland to University Park tomorrow.

Wanderers II kick off their Midland League Cup defence away to Perthshire III.
