Loan man at the double to see off Weir’s Loons

-

DUMBARTON 3 FORFAR 1

Forfar will look to put their free weekend to good use – and hope that their striker crisis will ease – after defeat to Dumbarton on Saturday.

With only four points from their last seven league matches, the Loons find themselves in the bottom half of the table.

The play-off places are still within sight but the options available to manager Jim Weir up front proved to be an issue, compared to those available to Jim Duffy.

Loan signing from Kilmarnock Adam Frizzell, who bagged a brace, was a huge thorn in their side all afternoon. The Sons took the lead in 11 minutes when former Stenhousemuir defender Morgyn Neill rose unchallenged in the box to bullet a right-wing corner past Marc Mccallum.

Frizzell then marked his first appearance with a goal, shrugging off a couple of half-hearted challenges before netting with a great strike from the edge of the box.

The Killie man made it a debut to remember just before half-time, as he picked up Kyle Hutton’s pass to beat Gary Irvine and curl his shot into the top corner.

The visitors were better just before the break and then after it and when on-loan striker Russell Mclean brushed off Stuart Carswell’s attentions, he cut the ball back for Jordan Kirkpatrick who made no mistake from 10 yards.

Forfar then had their best spell of the contest but failed to find a second counter, with a Murray Mackintosh header palmed clear at full stretch by Sons keeper Conor Brennan.

Next up for the Loons are East Fife away on October 19 and boss Weir will hope that at least one of striking trio Dale Hilson, Rory Currie and Andy Jackson are back for that one.
