Sheriff warns man not to send any ‘stupid messages’ to his ex

-

An Angus man, who is struggling to come to terms with the end of a six-year relationship, has been warned by a sheriff not to send “stupid messages” to his ex-partner before he returns for sentencing.

Joshua Harris, 24, of Union Street, Brechin, appeared before Sheriff Derek Reekie at Forfar having earlier pled guilty to sending grossly offensive, obscene or menacing text messages to his ex in which he swore and threatened her with violence on various occasions between April 21 and 23 this year.

The court heard Harris’s partner had ended the relationship and he struggled to deal with it.

Solicitor Billy Rennie said his client and his ex-partner were now in an amicable relationship.

Sheriff Reekie deferred sentence until January 16 for Harris to be of good behaviour.

Also at Forfar: Nathaniel Clark, 22, of Hillhead Road, Monikie, was fined £600 and banned from driving for 14 months by Sheriff Keith O’mahoney.

Clark admitted driving on Thomas Street, James Street and Taymouth Terrace, Carnoustie, on March 2 this year with a blood alcohol reading of 108mgs, more than twice the legal limit of 50.

The court heard that police pulled Clark over at 1am because of the manner of driving of the accused’s black BMW.

Solicitor Billy Rennie said Clark’s reason for driving was an all too familiar explanation, adding: “He had gone to the pub to meet this girl, she was staying to have a couple more, it was never his intention to have a couple of drinks.”
