Thistle will be hoping it’s third time lucky

-

Kirriemuir Thistle will try for a third time to take on Maud in the Macron Scottish Junior Cup after the tie was postponed for a second time last weekend.

Manager Darren Scott managed to arrange a friendly against Forfar Albion in midweek to keep his players ticking over, with the sides drawing 2-2. Scott hopes to be able to welcome back David Millar and Ross Grant who would have missed last weekend.

Andy Heggie’s young Violet should see their Quest Precision Engineering Cup Round 2 clash with Lochee United at Glenesk Park as “an opportunity to gain experience of playing a top side,” according to the manager.

“It’s a big ask and we will need to be at our very best to stand any chance of going through to the next round but all I can ask is for 100% and we will see where it takes us,” said Heggie.

He expects to have the same squad available that beat Forfar Albion last weekend but for Lochee United boss George Shields it is a familiar story of injuries.

Scott Webster, Connor Birse, Bryan Deasley, Craig Smith, Scott Mccomiskie and Gary Kenneth are all missing but Alan Tulleth is back from holiday. Shields can be forgiven for having one eye on next week’s William Hill Scottish Cup tie at home to BSC Glasgow.

Lochee Harp go in to their clash with Super League North side Luncarty as massive underdogs and, even though Michael Gormley was able to add four new faces to his squad last weekend, the result was still a defeat to Coupar Angus. With no improvement on the injury front, Harp should have the same squad that travelled to Coupar Angus.

The tie of the round is at Farquharson Park where Scone Thistle face North End in a clash of two of last season’s promoted sides.

North End boss Ross Lunan was pleased with the way his side came back to take a point against Downfield. However, he was disappointed they gave their city rivals a two-goal start. His side is unlikely to show many changes to the one on duty last weekend.

Blairgowrie lost for the first time this season last week to East Craigie and this week look to bounce back against Arbroath Vics at Davie Park.

The visitors had an outstanding 7-1 win over Brechin Vics last time out and will be tough opponents.

Arbroath will be without Lewis Quinn, who is injured, plus long-term injury casualties Michael Fotheringham and Dean Hardie

Tayport progressed to the third round of the Macron Scottish Junior Cup following their replay win over Girvan at the Canniepairt last weekend and are in DJ Laing East Region Cup action as they travel to Volunteer Park to take on Armadale Thistle.

Port boss Chris Mcpherson is without Connor Ireland through injury and Fraser Anderson is cup-tied. Greg Whyte is doubtful with an ankle knock.

Coupar Angus host Kirkcaldy & Dysart at Foxhall Park in confident mood following last weekend’s win over Lochee Harp. They will have goalkeeper Andrew Smith back from injury but Sam King and Mike Fleming are out with knocks.

East Craigie will travel to play Fauldhouse United in the East Region Cup in confident mood after they went top of the Premier League North following the victory over Blairgowrie. With no injury concerns, East Craigie have a full squad available

This season’s League Cup begins at Laing Park where Super League North leaders Carnoustie Panmure take on Brechin Vics of the Premier League.

Gowfers boss Phil Mcguire is without Steven Mcphee and Brian Clark who are both on holiday but he is able to welcome back Harvey Dailly from suspension. Carnoustie may make changes to the side that beat Forfar West End but, having already exited two cup competitions early, Mcguire is likely to stay with a strong line-up.

Vics boss Andy Davie is still in the early stages of his tenure and despite being without six players for the trip to Arbroath Vics last weekend, was still disappointed in the manner of the defeat. Davie is without Aaron Stephen through suspension but otherwise he should have a full squad available.

There is only one game in the Super League North this weekend and that is at Whitton Park where Broughty Athletic host Downfield. Both sides will be looking for a win after drawing their games 2-2 last weekend. When they met at Downfield Park early in the season they finished level at 1-1.

Downfield will be without defender Ben Sivewright through suspension but otherwise Paul Marr is expected to stick with the side that drew at North End.

Broughty manager Jamie Mccunnie is expected to have the same squad that drew at Luncarty and is not expected to make many changes.
