Wanderers hit goal trail

-

High-flying Dundee Wanderers hit 14 goals without reply in league and cup action over the weekend but it was a case of mixed fortunes for Grove Menzieshill.

Former internationalist Vikki Bunce still has the magic touch, conjuring up a four-goal salvo in Sunday’s Scottish Cup win to add to Saturday’s Premiership single.

Emily Dark (2), Jess Martin, Hannah Young and Ellie Wilson bought into the 6-0 result against Merlins Gordonians, while Martin (2), Mhairi Millar and another from Dark contributed to their 8-0 cup victory against Edinburgh University IIIS.

Grove were unable to build on their Scottish Cup win over GHK. Travelling short of several regulars, they succumbed to Hillhead with goals from Sam Sangster, Jude Mcmullan and Katie Stott not sufficient against five from the Glasgow outfit.

Grove Menzieshill’s second string took their first points in Championship 1 with a hard-earned 2-1 victory over George Heriot’s.

Kerryn Berndsen’s opener had been cancelled out by Steph Ajodani before a late set-piece gave Maya Donald the chance to pounce on a rebound.

The streak continued with a 3-1 cup win over Aberdeen Uni with goals from Mel Mitchell and veterans Louise Carroll and Ailsa Wyllie.

Dundee University posted a first win in Champ 2 as Glasgow University II were sent packing emptyhanded while Kinross and St Andrews University II shared the honours at 1-1 in their Champ 3 fixture.

In round 2 of the Midland League Cup Kirsty Jefferies and Jenny Gerrard secured the points for Wanderers II over St Andrews Uni IV, St Andrews IIIS beat Perthshire IIS 2-1, Stirling Uni IIS had a 5-1 victory over Kinross II and Madras FP beat Monarchs 2-0.

Sunday’s outings saw Perthshire go out of the Scottish Cup on penalties after a 2-2 draw with Glasgow University II while Madras were ousted from the District Cup by Wanderers II with goals from Amy Snelle (2), Ruth Gamble and ex-scotland keeper turned striker Carmin Dow.
