Allan would settle for more ‘bizarre’ goals

-

Lewis Allan admits last weekend’s late clincher against Glenavon was the most bizarre he has been involved in – but the striker insists he is not worried as long as the goals keep coming for Raith Rovers.

The former Hibs youngster tapped in five minutes into injury-time to help earn Rovers a 3-1 victory in their Challenge Cup clash with the Northern Irish side and secure progress to the quarter-finals.

The visitors were left fuming when Welsh referee Bryn Markham allowed play to continue after an offside flag went up against Kieron Bowie, who subsequently squared for Allan to roll in from close range.

But Allan, who had gone five games without scoring, was delighted and is hoping the goals continue to flow against Clyde this afternoon.

The 22-year-old said: “Without a doubt that was the most bizarre goal I’ve been involved in – and it was the easiest goal I’ve scored.

“I could hear the referee shouting that there was a defender playing Kieron onside and so I reacted and the pass left me with an empty net.

“It was great to get back on the scoresheet and with the last kick of the ball as well, so it was great.

“Sometimes you need a wee bit of luck in front of goal and I’ve not really had that.

“But your luck changes and we’ll take any type of goal.”

Raith go into the match at the top of League One after the first quarter of the fixture list and are determined to stay there.

The stirring second-half comeback to draw 2-2 with title favourites Falkirk in their last league outing has boosted belief they can last the distance.

But Allan believes it is in away games like this afternoon’s that the automatic promotion spot will be decided next May.

He added: “We want to win as many games as we can away from home.

“Our away form, touch wood, has been good, apart from the Stranraer and East Fife games.

“Our home form is brilliant but I think the title will be decided by who can pick up the most points on the road.

“So, hopefully we can keep things going against Clyde.”
