Support events for people working in creative industries

- ROB MCLAREN

Perthshire enterprise support group Growbiz has organised two business events for people working in the creative industries.

The meetings are informal and confidential and provide a forum for creative people to share information, experiences and ideas for potential collaborations.

The Highland Perthshire event will take place tomorrow at Nae Limits in Ballinluig from 6.30- 8.30pm.

Next week will see a similar meeting in Heaven Scent in Milnathort in Kinross-shire on October 28 at the same time.

Growbiz operations manager Merle Palmer, who is facilitating both events, said: “Artists, makers, writers and other creatives often don’t associate themselves with the word business.

“Although many of the challenges are the same as other sectors, there are also a number of issues very specific to the work of this group of people.

“These first meetings will provide a platform for us to look at the opportunities, challenges and ideas facing creatives in Highland Perthshire and Kinross-shire.

“The idea of the sessions is to reduce the isolation that can sometimes be experienced by creatives in rural areas and to provide opportunities for collaborations.”

The sessions will also feature Finlay Kerr who will talk about Perthshire Artisans, a Growbiz pilot project which is part of the new Leader-funded Making Rural Business Digital initiative.

Perthshire Artisans is a digital platform providing a marketing portal for local makers and artists.

Ms Palmer added: “The site will provide a range of services, from simply providing an additional promotional avenue to a full e-commerce service.

“As well as looking at how the peer support group can work for creatives, those at the event will also have the opportunity to provide feedback and discuss how Perthshire Artisans might work for their practice.”
