EARLSFERRY and ELIE. It was party night at Kilconquha­r Castle as members celebrated the institute’s 100th birthday. President Margaret Lambie welcomed guests from neighbouri­ng rurals, as well as national chairwoman Linda Retson and Margaret Whiteford, chairwoman of Fife Federation. Margaret Lambie gave a brief history of the institute. Member Chrissie Mackie and Linda cut the cake. Irene Murray read grace composed by Honor Woodcock. Secretary Janis Lauritsen read messages from other rurals before St Andrews University group The Alleycats entertaine­d. Competitio­n: corsage – 1 Eleanor Black, 2 Honor Woodcock, 3 Irene Murray. Deirdre Smith proposed thanks.

GATESIDE. President Agnes Allan introduced sisters Betty and Isobel. Isobel recycles items and showed how to make a snowman out of a plastic bottle. MEIGLE. Members celebrated 100 years of the institute at a meeting in Kinloch Hall which featured entertainm­ent by Meigle Musicality. A get-together was also held for afternoon tea at Lands of Loyal Hotel.

NORTHMUIR. President Elma Dickens welcomed members. Gloria Mitchell showed how to make floral art displays with a Halloween theme. PITCAIRNGR­EEN. Audrey Michie welcomed members and invited Evelyn Scobie, vice-chairman of the federation, to the 90th birthday celebratio­ns at Bankfoot Visitor Centre. Audrey gave a brief history of the institute before Helen Coventry and Jean Forsythe cut the cake.

RATTRAY. President Muriel Brown welcomed members and guests who enjoyed browsing stalls set up by Paulene Madoc-jones (cards and papercraft), Lesley Howkins (items from recycled denim), Moira Gibson (jewellery) and Lynne Sheridan (books).

STRATHALLA­N. Vice-president Vivienne Whyte welcomed Irene Mclaughlan, from Blackford SWI, who demonstrat­ed card making. Competitio­ns: jam – 1 Kathy Grant, 2 Christine Taylor, 3 Jean Dawson; useful item from recycled materials
