Kirrie Thistle stick it to Largs

KNOCKOUT: Angus side put the hems on last season’s runners-up at Westview Park

The result of the day in the Macron Scottish Junior Cup was at Westview Park as Darren Scott’s Kirriemuir Thistle knocked out last season’s runners-up, Largs Thistle.

Kamil Kadela put the Angus side in front on 38 minutes and then doubled the advantage just after the start of the second half. The visitors pulled a goal back on 55 minutes through George Sewell but Dale Reid made sure of Kirrie’s progress with a third goal on 75 minutes.

North End pulled off a bit of a shock, beating Dalry Thistle 2-1 away from home. Marc Curragh put the West Region Championsh­ip outfit in front on the half hour but North End were soon level as Liam Mcartney equalised just three minutes later, the winner coming from Gary Sutherland on 89 minutes.

Dayle Robertson scored all four goals for Tayport as they beat Downfield away from home.

The Spiders led 1-0 at the break through Lee Cameron, Robertson equalised on 51 minutes but Cameron put his side back in front just two minutes later.

Robertson equalised again on 57 minutes and then scored a third on 75 and a fourth on 83 minutes. Kerr Hay missed a penalty for the home side on 85 minutes and then – in stoppage time

– Ryan Hunter pulled one back. Later in added time Downfield had Connor Mcleod and Mitch Hay sent off, with Lyall Shaw seeing red for Tayport.

Broughty Athletic had a comfortabl­e passage to Round 4, beating St Anthonys 5-1 at Whitton Park. Bryan Duell scored the Broughty opener on 21 minutes but the visitors levelled within a minute.

Josh Skelly scored the second for Broughty on 37 minutes and Jamie Mccunnie’s men went in at the break 2-1 in front. Duell scored his second and Broughty’s third on 65 minutes before Skelly hit his own second on 71 before Ross Mccord scored the fifth on 77 minutes.

Scone Thistle live to fight another day after they drew 1-1 in Aberdeen against Aberdeen East End. Both goals came in the first half, East End taking the lead on 13 minutes but Aaron Carlon equalised from the spot on 34 minutes.

The sides will meet again on Saturday at Farquharso­n Park for a place in the Fourth Round.

Brechin Vics went out of the Scottish Junior Cup, losing 2-0 at home to Neilston. The visitors led through a 24th minute own goal and Martin Curran made sure of the win with a second just after the hour mark.

Forfar West End travelled to holders and Junior football giants Auchinleck Talbot and, despite a decent display, went down 3-0 with Mark Shankland and Graham Wilson among the Talbot scorers.

East Craigie are flying high in the Premier League North but went down 2-1 at Cambuslang Rangers and had keeper Liam Dunn sent off late on.

The Glasgow side scored either side of half time to lead 2-0, Dunn was then sent off with five minutes to go with the East Craigie consolatio­n coming in the last minute from the spot.

Kirkcaldy & Dysart thought they had secured another replay against an Ayrshire side when Nathan Feeley equalised Darren Miller’s opener for Darvel at Denfield Park, however, 60 seconds after Feeley’s goal, Alan Mckenzie broke Fife hearts with the Darvel winner.

Fauldhouse United took revenge for the 7-0 thrashing at Thornton Hibs in the league last month as they dumped the Fife side out of the cup.

David O’donnell opened the scoring for the visitors with a free-kick on 22 minutes but Garry Thomson celebrated the birth of his daughter last week with an equaliser just after half time.

O’donnell hadn’t finished however and struck the winner with five minutes to go, Hibs goalkeeper Scott Costello was sent off late on.
