Gowfers see off Luncarty to stay four points ahead

-

Carnoustie Panmure restored their fourpoint lead at the top of the Super League North with a 3-1 win over Luncarty at Laing Park.

The Gowfers were given a very early opportunity to take the lead when the referee pointed to the spot within the first 60 seconds, but Sam Simpson saw his kick saved by Ryan Mitchell in the Luncarty goal.

Carnoustie were punished on 26 minutes when the visitors took the lead, a cheap free-kick was swung in to the box by Chris Anton, met by Callum Kirkcaldy and his header was fumbled by Jamie Robbie and in to the net.

The Gowfers were level right on half time when Jake Mair was at the back post to stab the ball home from a Simpson cross into the danger area.

The second half was all Carnoustie as they took control of the game, a Mcphee corner on 63 minutes was only cleared as far as Harvey Dailly and the defender smashed the ball in to the far corner to give Carnoustie the lead.

Six minutes later, Jamie Winter made it three, Ryan Dignan chased a ball down the right before playing back to Winter and – without breaking stride – he rifled the ball in to the far corner to make it 3-1.

The Super League South game at Central Park between Lochore Welfare and Whitburn was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch

Blairgowrie returned to the top of the Premier League North but had to fight for the points by a spirited performance from Violet at Glenesk Park.

Matty Adam after five minutes – and Cammy Mcmanus on 17 minutes – saw the visitors lead 2-0 at the break and when Gary Axworthy made it three on 54 minutes it looked game over.

However, Violet under Andy Heggie certainly have spirit and pulled a goal back on 67 minutes and again on 90 but, despite laying siege to the Blairgowrie goal, they couldn’t find an equaliser.

Lochee Harp recorded their second win of the season and their first away from home, beating Forfar Albion 2-1 at Guthrie Park. Brian Harris scored both of the Harp goals with Robbie Gallacher scoring for Albion. The win sees Harp climb off the bottom with Albion replacing them.

In Premier League South, Lochgelly Albert thrashed West Calder United 7-0 at Gardiners Park. James Gunn was on target with four and Craig Mcguinness scored twice, with Ewan Robertson netting the other.

A Barry Craig goal midway through the first half was enough to give Stoneyburn all three points at Rosyth and the West Lothian outfit knock Newburgh off the top spot.

Montrose Roselea returned from facing Deveronside in Banff with a point from a 2-2 draw in the North Region Super League.

Philip Watt put the home side in front on 16 minutes but Conlon Robertson equalised on 24 before putting the visitors in front just before half time. Deveronside were level within five minutes of the restart when Blackhall appeared to go down very easily and the referee pointed to the spot, Mckinnon making no mistake.
