Cowden dumped by Broxburn

-

Cowdenbeath can have no complaints after being dumped out of the Scottish Cup by East of Scotland League side Broxburn Athletic at Albyn Park on Saturday.

The Blue Brazil had no answers to the hosts who were up for it from the kickoff after the 1-1 draw at Central Park and took command of the replay, romping home 3-0.

It could have been worse for Gary Bollan’s League Two side as Kevin Dabrowski saved a second half penalty from Zander Miller with the score at 1-0.

That gave Cowden some hope but within eight minutes of that miss, Craig Scott crashed home a superb goal to make it 2-0 and there was no way back for the Fifers.

Miller had given Broxburn a slender half-time lead when he slotted home a penalty kick after Jamie Pyper was adjudged to have fouled Greg Binnie.

Until then, Cowden had looked threatening on occasion with David Cox coming close with a shot midway through the first half and then forcing an excellent save from Conor Wallace in the hosts’ goal.

Cox beat Wallace early in the second half only to see a defender block his shot and the writing was on the wall.

Jamie Todd fouled Miller for the second penalty award which came to nothing but Dabrowski had no chance with Scott’s second goal.

Cowden pressed in the closing stages but were hit on the break when substitute Conor Kelly grabbed the third goal to set up an away tie at Inverurie Loco Works in the third round.

● Penicuik Thistle also saw off a League Two side as the East of Scotland League team beat Stenhousemuir 3-0 to earn a third round trip to Firhill to take on Partick Thistle.
