Dark Blues star had no concerns over drought
Dundee striker Kane Hemmings insists he was not “too bothered” by his goal drought, writes Ian Roache.
The Dark Blues frontman scored twice in the club’s impressive 3-0 victory over Alloa on Tuesday night to end a goalless run that stretched right back to the Tannadice derby on August 30.
While it had become a talking point for others, Hemmings stayed relaxed about it all, while his manager James Mcpake and various team-mates argued it would just be a matter of time before he hit the back of the net again.
So it proved at the Indodrill Stadium against the Wasps.
Hemmings said: “I have been happy with my performances in recent weeks.
“It was just the goals that had been missing and ultimately you will always be judged on scoring goals.
“It is not something I have been too bothered about really.
“I have had a couple of chats with the manager and he has confidence in me to score goals given the opportunity.
“This was one of the games that I had a couple of opportunities early doors and stuck them away.
“Hopefully, I can get some more in the coming weeks.”
Full-back Jordan Marshall delivered the cross for Hemmings’ second goal and the Englishman was delighted with his compatriot’s contribution.
Hemmings added: “I have been on at him for weeks to put the ball in early when the defenders are running back the way.
“It makes it a lot harder for the defender and a lot easier for me and he put a great ball in for the second.
“Also, Deccy (Declan Mcdaid) put a great ball in at the end and I should have finished it for the hattrick but it wasn’t to be.”
Hemmings will now look to cause trouble for Morton when they visit Dens Park tomorrow night.
He warned, though, that the Dark Blues cannot afford to drop their performance level if they are to make it a brilliant winning week, having already seen off Ayr United as well as Alloa.
“In any league in the world, if you go away two games in a row and get six points you will be delighted,” added Hemmings.
“This is a hard league and everyone can beat anyone.
“It doesn’t matter if it is Alloa, Inverness or Dundee United, anyone can beat anyone.
“You have to be at it every single game and I think the last couple of weeks, apart from last five minutes against Partick Thistle, we have been excellent.
“We recover now and go again on Friday.”
