Nisbet looks forward for inspiration

Kevin Nisbet is convinced Dunfermline’s attacking options can bring out the best in him – and help shoot the Pars up the Championship table.

The 22-year-old was the Fifers’ hero in the 2-0 victory against Arbroath, with his second-half double sealing back-to-back home wins for the first time in nearly eight months.

The former Partick Thistle youngster was plucked from Fife rivals Raith Rovers in the summer after finishing last season as the SPFL’S top scorer with an incredible 34 in 46 games.

But he admits he has found goals harder to come by this term.

Tuesday’s brace still took his tally to nine for the campaign so far and was the perfect response to being dropped for Saturday’s defeat to Dundee United.

And the bustling marksman reckons the front four that got the job done against Arbroath – himself, Andy Ryan, Greg Kiltie and Ryan Dow – is good enough to strike fear into any defence.

He said: “In recent weeks, I’ve been missing chances that I should have been scoring, so I was happy to get the double.

“All last week in training I was on fire, hitting the target. Before, I was probably thinking about it too much and trying to hit the corners (of the net) instead of just hitting the target.

“When my first chance came along it was just instinct to finish and thankfully it went in.

“It was a great night for us – three points and a victory we definitely needed.

“Chucky (Ryan) had scored two in two prior to the United game, so it was his chance, definitely.

“But I thought me and him linked up well, with Kiltie and Dowser on the wing.

“I think the four of us would cause problems for any team in this league, so hopefully we can take it into Saturday and get another three points.”

Had results gone against them on Tuesday, the Pars could have found themselves sitting rockbottom of the Championship.

Instead, they jumped up to sixth and are just five points off fourth-placed Dundee.
