Brechin still rooted but Wilson hails mentality

BRECHIN CITY 2 EDINBURGH CITY 3

Brechin City remain rooted to the bottom of the League 2 table following a 3-2 defeat from Edinburgh City at Glebe Park.

Edinburgh had the bulk of territorial advantage in the opening 45 minutes and they grabbed the lead after 25 minutes when Marc Laird fired home a blistering drive from the edge of the box.

City improved after the break, taking the game to their opponents and substitute Emile Ngoy headed home the equaliser with six minutes remaining.

However the home side’s celebrations were muted within a minute after Danny Handling blasted home a blistering right-foot drive and the same player made it 3-1 from the penalty spot five minutes later with Ngoy grabbing a further goal for City right at the death to narrow the deficit.

Brechin boss Mark Wilson was disappointed with the final outcome and urged his players to learn from their mistakes.

“The players gave absolutely everything with a few of them cramping up late on, which shows just how much effort they put in against a very good side. I thought that we were OK in the first-half.

“It was a fabulous strike from their player to give them the lead but we were much better after the break, creating chances and we got ourselves back into the match and worked so hard to grab the equaliser.

“The major disappointment was losing a goal very shortly afterwards and it was poor decision making on our part which led to the goal.

“Edinburgh then stretched their advantage but to our credit we still kept battling away and managed to get a late goal.”

“We again showed that we can compete at this level but we can’t keep making the same mistakes every week and the players will have to learn from those errors very quickly.”
