Wanderers just keep on moving in right direction

-

Champions Dundee Wanderers laid down the gauntlet to any potential challengers as they blasted their way to the top of the table on day one of this season’s national indoor league title race.

Clydesdale Western and newly-promoted Inverleith joined them on the six-point mark, but the Taysiders are already streets ahead of their rivals in the goal-scoring department.

Grange bore the brunt of the opening salvo as six players hit the mark in a 10-0 victory, Amy Snelle’s treble outdoing doubles from Emily Dark and Milly Skidmore.

Watsonians fared slightly better, going down 8-2, with Vikki Bunce grabbing a hat-trick.

Grove Menzieshill fielded a significantly less-experienced side but would still have been hoping for a better start than a loss to Inverleith.

The capital team owed much of their success to the promptings of Sarah Jamieson, an ex-grovie who has clearly made the most of a year playing in

Germany’s top league. Grove’s goals came courtesy of Sam Sangster from the spot and a debut strike by teenager Rhiannon Carr.

A 6-4 reverse against title hopefuls Clydesdale was much more promising with the mother and daughter team of Pauline (2) and Katie Stott joined on the scoresheet by Molly Godfrey.

Western Wildcats leapt into pole position in Division 2 with a 16-2 victory in their opening encounter against Grove’s second string.

The Dundee outfit bounced back to claim a 9-4 result over Bon Accord in the afternoon session.

Wanderers II were edged out 4-3 by CALA Edinburgh before turning things round with a 2-1 win over Inverleith II.

Grove IIIS went on a goal rampage in their Midland League Cup match against Perthshire IIIS with Izzy Skinner scoring four.

Pat Lindsay, Abi Chapman and Maya Donald added singles to the 7-0 win.
